I am having a problem with an OMC drive. The model No. on the drive bracket is 984609 which does not corrospond with any charts that i can find. however the motor covers are for a 175HP johnson ocean runner of about 1994 vintage, 60 deg vee. I am not aware of OMC making a C drive like this, It may be made up from an outboard. if so it is a good job.
The problem that I have is the gearbox will not drop. all the bolts are out and the gearshift is disconnected, the box is dropping about 1/4". Has anyone had any problems with the drive shafts sticking on these motors like some of the early mercs and Yamaha motors.

Re: OMC drive

i have very similar, mine is 1991 225 sea drive.

my lower unit dropped perfectly. wehn you undid the shift linkage, did you loosen the screw that holds it, or completely remove the screw. i must be completely removed before any dropping will occur

mike

peace

Re: OMC drive

I assume you got the bolt that is under the trim tab on the lower unit. That said, yep, the driveshaft sure can stick in these motors. Can be a real PITA, happened to the counter rotator of my pair of 2.0L SeaDrives. I got lucky and got it loose with the help of two wonder bars stuck in the opening. Good luck with it.

Re: OMC drive

Are you sure you have a Sea Drive? Could it be a Quiet Rider instead?
