Re: OMC electric shift
I have a 28' Fiberform, with twin 302's and electric shift as well.
In two words, eBay and Craigslist.
While both of my engine run, we just had to break down both out drives and replace all of the seals. Was a freaking mess of a job. Finding out the electrolsys at our marina was horrible. I had to sandblast and repaint them both.
I bought the boat off of my ex-wifes uncles, ex-wife. I found it for them on ebay like 8 years ago, then we bought it about a two years ago. Basically the boat was in the water since 1978, with few haul outs since then. We just bought a trailer about 2 months ago. So now we can do a lot more work.
Parts for the outdrives are there, but can be expensive. Its not difficult, just time consuming if you had little marine experience like myself. We bought two repair manuals. The Seloc and Clymer. I think the Clymer is better, better pictures and more detailed steps. But together they make a good reference.
