I changed my engine on a 1977 SkipJack to a brand new 351 Ford Marine but didn't change out the OMC stern drive I know I will have to rework the transom and steering set up but what I don't know what brand and type of stern drive will bolt up to the 351 Ford Marine (only has 120 hours on it)and I have already spent close to 8000.00 over the last couple of years repairing the stern drive and want to be rid of it

I know that MerCruiser used to use Fords, so you might try that route. As far as I recall, the only Fords OMC used were the little 2.3s and the big 460s. I'm not sure what would fit, and I'm not sure they ever used either on stringers. Mostly you'd need the bell housing and engine coupler.

Otherwise, you have a big hole in the transom to fill and reinforce if you switch from that drive.

Some of those old OMC electric shift stringer drives used Ford engines. I think one was the 240hp version back in the mid to late '70s.

Mercruiser used the V8 Fords for a few years....
With a little Mixing + Matching, You Can Graft in a Mercruiser......
I've done Several of these conversions(2 in the works Now).......
The Difference is,
I'm going with Merc/Chevy Power......
Going with Chevy Power Uncomplicates things a Whole Lot......

Yeah, the MerCruiser 233 was a 351 witha a 2bbl. Get the flywheel cover and transom assembly and an MR or modified Alpha(driveshaft) sould fit. But.... is that OMC a stringer drive? If it is, youll have to have the transom modified to make sure its strong enough to push the boat as well as filling the hole to cut the smaller Merc cutout. Wellcraft offered the Skippack with Merc power too so it should be braced properly but I would have an expert do this conversion. It probably is not worth it at all to do this but it sounds like you really want the boat; just dont expect to get this money out of it when you sell it. Post pics of the operation if you do it

My 1977 Formula came from the factory with an OMC Ford powered 351 (235hp)with the OMC stringer 800 outdrive. You shouldn't have any problems.
