My father in law has a 1988 OMC cobra 4.3. He still has points and would love to go to electronic ignition. He tells me there is no kit for it. Anyone know of one that will work with his shift interupter circuit? I know its an OMC but I like watching him run it on the water till I pass him with my mercruiser and cant see him anymore!!!!!!!!LOL

Re: OMC electronic ignition

I'm guessing that Pertronix will make a kit for that setup. I have a Pertronix in my Cobra 460.

Re: OMC electronic ignition

Something tells me Pertronix discontinued the 1563A(?) kit for the 4.3. You can look it up at several online Pertronix vendors. If you can't find one, send me a p.m. I think I actually have 1 in my desk drawer...

They may still make the Ignitor II kit for the 4.3 too - not sure.
The 1563A was the original ignitor. I may not be exactly right on that number....

And then you'd need a new ESA module from CDI. The original ESA only works with points.
Don't mess around with that stupid thing where you solder up some resistors and diodes and mount them in a plastic fire-waiting-to-happen thing that Pertronix recommends. Not sure what they were thinking with that non-coast guard approved suggestion, but the new ESA's from CDI are compatible with electronic ignition and they are all sealed in epoxy and don't get hot.
