OMC Exhaust bellows

I have a 1989 OMC cobra 5.0 and in the exhaust bellows on the lower unit there are little holes all along the bottom of it. I was wondering if anyone knew if this is normal or do I need to replace the bellows. Someone told me that aftermarket exhaust bellows have holes in them to allow the exhaust to escape faster as not to cause carbon build up. I was wondering if this is also true. Thanks if anyone can help me on this topic.

""bellows have holes in them to allow the exhaust to escape faster as not to cause carbon build up"<br /><br />The bottom of the bellows should almost like it was placed on a sander and a flat ground on it exposing holes on the edge of the bellows. These holes should be oriented toward the bottom. This is the newer design, and the reason above is correct. Modification was due to people running the motors at low speed causing carbon build-up due to the extra pressure involved it getting the exhaust all the way out the hub.

Yes Marty...some of the aftermarket ones have slits going across for the reasons you mentioned, if your bellows has these uniformed type "holes" then your OK.
