OMC FWC Thermostat question

Based on the parts diagram at Doug Russel, I ordered a new 160 thermostat, o-ring, and gasket. (they are of course also shown in the OMC manual)

Then, when I started to dismantle all the hoses, brackets, I realised that my engine has a fresh water cooling (closed) system, and that the thermostat housing is totally different.

Would the thermostat, gasket, and o-ring for raw water cooled engine work for me? If not, is there an "addendum" to the OMC manual that shows the FWC parts?

Or alternatively if someone on the forum has the correct part numbers - that would be great.

Thanks,

Re: OMC FWC Thermostat question

I have a San Jaun Engineering cooling system. It uses a simple automotive style thermostat housing and it uses a standard automotive paper gasket. I would send those back where you got them, go to your local NAPA auto parts and by their top quality automotive thermostat and gasket.

To my knowledge, OMC never equiped their motors with closed cooling so the manual/catalogue will do you no good.

Also, running ethylene glycol, I strongly recommend that you go to a 180 deg stat. 140-160 deg stats are compromise temperatures and not ideal for combustion chamber efficiency. They only use those in an attempt to keep salt from plating out inside the engine.
