omc guy's first yamaha

i have 5 omc motors, [only two are actually mounted on boats], and have been into boating for about a year... but i'm pretty darned into it now. anyway, i'm looking at buying a third boat, [the biggest is only a 16 footer], that has a good running 1990'ish yamaha 40hp motor on it. this motor has on top of the engine cover a round black plastic cap. guessing it's for some kind of oil tank because i just saw one today, but it was written in french, [i'm on vacation on the french riviera]. so... are these engines, 2-strokes with oil injection systems? are the oil injection systems reliable? more so, are the 1990'ish 40hp class 2-strokes good motors? i see them in use on a lot of boats, so i'm guessing so.
