Trying to determine which is the best Holley 4bbl to use on my 'new' 5.0 litre replacement motor. Holley makes a 450 cfm 4 bbl or, of course, the venerable 4160 600 cfm carb.

As a point of reference does anyone know what the cfm rating was on the original OMC 190 hp 302 engine was. I already sold mine and the seloc manual does not specify.

Furthermore I am having difficulty identifying the Holley 600 cfm carb that I do have. It has a Motocraft tag on it and the Holley 'list' number stamped into it but I cannot find reference to either of these numbers, even on the Holley site.

I was going to email Holley Carb Tech but their link is dead on the website.

Hi Boomer, I would personally use the 450 CFM unit, it should be perfect for your 302, where the 600 CFM would be a bit much. In a Mustang with a HP 302, and all cammed up and all I would opt for the 600 though. The 450 should run real crisp and clean. you may have to mess with the jetting some.

I'm favoring that choice a bit L'Dude. Carb cfm calculators point to it as well. It's said that the 450 would be real good on the low end torque. Problem is that there are no used 450's around and a new one is 500 smackers.

I'd still like to know what the original two bbl carb was. It's likely that it was a 300 cfm as that is the only 2 bbl that holley lists on it's marine webpage. They do list a 450 cfm 2bbl but when you click on the link it shows a 4 bbl.

I also see some 500 cfm 2 bbl's listed on Ebay but I do not find them on the Holley site.(edit: they are listed) If, by chance, my original was a 500cfm 2 bbl, I don't know what the point of going to a 450 4 bbl would be.

Not sure about the OMC, but Mercruiser first used a 2300 Holley 300cfm 2BBL and later used a Rochester 2GC (I have this one) at no more than 316cfm I think, but probably less.

Mercruiser rated the 302 with a 2bbl at 188hp. They made an inboard version with teh Holley 450 that was rated at 225. The 351w versions were 233 with 2bbl and 255 with the 600cfm Holley I have on the shelf.

I no longer have a 2 bbl manifold jimmbo. I'm stuck with a 4bbl now. That 650 cfm spreadbore would definitely be great for your 350/5.7 but a 600 sq bore or the 650 spreadbore might cost some torque on the 302/5.0.
