My engine is a OMC, 1986 4 cylinder. When I get in rough water it will only run at an idle. turn it off , after a while it will run strong , bangs around in the water a little and does it again. I have replaced fuel pump, cleaned filter, blow out lines and air return. Got rid of the ball bearing that eliminated backflow of gas. took apart carb and cleaned it. Guess what , it still cuts out in rough water, oh , I emptied gas tank also. Help, anyone had this problem before.

Sounds like you have a ignition problem and when you bang a wave hard yourloosing ignition. I think your spinning your wheels by playing with the fuel system when it sounds like you have an elec system. How is it dying? Shutting down like when you turn the key off or hit kill switch? Or is it dying like when your lawnmower runs outa fuel?

BTW. my kill switch was acting up when i was getting my motor started after the rebuid so i bypassed it. Had to replace it cause it was bad.

good luck ,

Big-E

Please tell me the "ball bearing" isn't the anti-siphon valve ???? If so, please tell me where in ohio you boat........so I can get the he11 away from you !

Incase you haven't guessed yet, taking out the "ballbearing" from the anti syphon valve is illegal and very dangerous, now there is nothing to stop the fuel from dumping into your bilge if you should have a leak.
