Hey guys im trying to figure out how to change my impeller on my omc 3.0 stringer drive with an 800 outdrive i think. I attached a pic so yall can see what it looks like. I took the boat out this weekend and it ran a steady 180 degrees but ive been reading on here that 160 is the ideal temp for a boat to run so i guess the first step is the impeller. I'm thinking i need to pull the 4 bolts on the lower part and it just falls right off but i don't want to pull it and screw something up to bad. I have a manual coming but it still hasn't arrived yet so any help would be appreciated.

My latest boat I bought brand new from the dealer and it has a 160 thermostat and has always ran between 170 and 180.. so dont think that is out of range... But however you should service the impeller every year or two. Buy a comprehensive service manual. It will be worth it...

Hi remember me. You still have no manual?

You have a 400 drive with a 3.0L motor.

After you get the manual, and want to change the impeller and run into a problem than post.

No way I can talk you thru it.

However from previous posts I would say your good to go till after the boating season to change out the impeller.

BTW: My setup runs at the same temp. as yours.

I don't know how you made out with the rotten stringers but thats for another forum.

chiefalen, the stringers are fixed. It was a pain in the *** and a lot of cold filtered beverages to finish the job but i took it out this weekend and it seems to be good. Yea i might wait till after the summer to change out the impeller and when i get my manual.

Well, sort of. There's a shift cable in there to contend with. You may have to undo the wire clamp at the transom to get enough slack to clear the water pump extension shaft.
