Kind of a dumb question but do I need to replace my impeller? This is the original on the 86 searay seville with an omc cobra. I recently bought the boat and went to start it on muffs and I noticed it was running kind of loud and hot also, there was no exhaust water. So I checked the impeller. This is what I found. Is the housing suppose to be oval?

Re: omc impeller question?

Usually an impeller won't make it 26 years, I suspect it was changed several times.

Anyway, yes, get a new one.
See the worn edge on the fins?
See the "set" a couple fins have taken?

Easier and cheaper to change it out than to have a failure and due severe damage.

The impeller is offset in the housing, Thats how it creates pressure and pumps water.

Yes, the housing is sort of oval. Non-round, anyway.
Replace the impeller. Yours is very worn, and do you want to risk an engine over a $20 part?
