I posted a thread on here about a month and a half ago about my outdrive, it seems the pinion gear is broke in half and the mechanic is haveing a hard time finding a gear set for it. Any help on where I can find gears for my drive.

Howdy,

You might be a little more specific. Which engine and drive? In 1989, I think the only engine and drive called "King" Cobra was the 460.

You might try the following people. The parts may be used though. King (460) Cobra parts are not being made anymore.....

Good luck.

If your's is the "baby" how do you know this?

The right drive for the 460 is is a 1.41:1 ratio if I remember correctly. It also holds 108oz of oil and is bigger, heavier and "beefier" to handle the additional torque of the 460. I don't know if I would use a smaller Cobra with a 460. They made the big heavy one for a reason......

If your's is NOT the right drive, someone has changed it......and the ratio may be all wrong (although I think the drive for the 5.8/5.7/5.0 engines was around 1.43:1)

Not true. If your engine and drive is a 1989 model, and it's a 460, you'll have the dog-clutch Cobra and it will NOT have a "hump".

The drives with the "hump" are (later) "cone" clutch drives and will not bolt to your gimbal mount.

The cone clutch drive for the 460 was not offered until 1990.

if you want to use a later drive, you will need to pull the engine and transom mount and replace it with the 1990 transom mount. if you are going to do that, you might as well pull the entire mess and replace it with either a Volvo or Mercruiser engine and drive

Did you ever find a gear set for your King Corbra? If you have not I have a brand new set.
