omc lower unit

last week i took my 1987 bayliner capri out and test drove and it ran good untill it locked up and died after getting towed back in and tearing into lower unit the upper gears where dy and locked up bearings and stacked them im trying to get the driveshaft and gears out of case to inspect for any other damage does anyone know how to remove gears from case it looks k=like the shaft is threaded any help would be appreciated

it sounds like you ran the drive low on oil if you do and OMC search they dont get refilled correctly quite a bit and lock up like yours<br /><br />i would not do anything else with out the correct service manual its not a simple job even for a pro<br /><br /><br />tommays

Get a manuel. It would take all day for someone to explain how to tear apart that drive. It's probably toast anyway. Sorry. Let this be a lesson for newbies out there. Don't take yer toy out unless u check all fluid levels! If u don't you'll get bit hard in the 'ol wallet.

GOT IT TORN DOWN AND TOASTED ALL BEARINGS AND RING AND PINION. RATIO 21-18 IF ANYONE HAS A USED OR A CHEAP NEW UNIT LET ME KNOW.
