I am the fortunate new owner of a Thompson Fisherman II, 1979 model with an OMC Stringer 800. Problem is, I can't find any information on my model outdrive. The plate on the outdrive shows model 981918, serial #w210700. I haven't been able to locate repair/parts manuals that reference these numbers. And, yes, I have confirmed that these are indeed the numbers stamped on my outdrive. Help me, please!

Welcome aboard:

'79 800 should be a hydro-mechanical shift. The number you're seeing on the side of the drive is the part number for the upper gear case housing. Inside your engine, there should be a tag somewhere (mine is on the rear starboard motor mount). That tag number will be the ID for the whole set - engine and drive.

Pictures can help confirm things too. You can upload those after your third post to the forum.

Thanks for the very quick response! I'll dig around and find the other numbers and take some pics to confirm. Thanks again.

no need to confirm. if it is a 1979 hydro-mechanical OMC stringer 800, that is all you need to know when ordering parts.
