You can do a couple of things.

Call Raul @ Rapidomarine.com.

Or look for a 85, 86-ish 4.3 Marine or truck engine. You'd have to find a complete motor as none of the tin or intake from the 3.8 will transfer over. The 4.3 will bolt up the same, provided you get one of the same vintage.

Re: omc motor replacement???

Thanks alot.

This is actually my friends boat but he knows nothing about working on motors and is very unambitios right now

You seem very knowledgable on boat mechanics, he never winterized the boat and he is worried that the lower unit may be damaged? is this possible? i'm not sure how the plumbing works for the coolant all i know is it drawn up near the prop but i dont know the path it follows.

He bought the boat for 3500 and now is looking a 1200 dollar engine. After some research i've learned that he got the boat cheap because OMC's are very problematic.

Is he better off just selling the boat with a seized motor and finding another more reliable boat?

OMC's are no more problematic than any other make, with proper care and maintenance. OMC is no longer in business, therefore most techs won't mess with them.

The drive??? If there is no water in the upper or lower, he has probably little to worry about. Hard to say.

Sell the boat?? Up to him. Worth more parted out than try to sell whole. IMO

Sorry!
