I have a 1988 Bayliner bow rider with a 305 Chevy, OMC outdrive, it goes in gear and prop turn while sitting in driveway, once I get it in the water it dies every time I try to put it in gear

:welcome:

Boats do run run great in the driveway, no question about it. Many boats don’t like water and so they refuse to run once you launch them.

I would go through the fuel system first to make sure all is good. Maybe a carb cleaning or rebuild. Then check the timing. Report back as you go.

What is the history of this boat?

The Carb, fuel pump and fuel filter has all been changed. Put a rebuilt. I go to put it in gear and it dies. If I put it in gear manually it stay running.

Not in the water., we just found out it’s the ESA. The ESA are not properly working so we brpassed them f and the boat in the driveway so need to get new ones then back to the lake to see if it runs.
