OMC Outdrive compatability

Hello. I have a 1993 OMC Playtime 16' bowrider 3.0 litre with an OMC outdrive with model number 987343. I need to replace the entire outdrive. As I look for rebuilds, are there other outdrives that are compatible or does the model number have to be the same? Out of curiosity, could I switch to a different brand of outdrive altogether? Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome aboard!

You likely have a Dog-clutch Cobra drive. If I had your boat and everything else is in excellent shape, I think I would do the SEI conversion which will cost about $2000 or so. I think you can buy SEI drives right here on iBoats.

I have the 19' version of your boat. We love ours. Do you possibly have a owners manual for yours?

I second the SEI conversion option.
here's the kit that adapts a SEI Mercruiser Alpha Gen II drive to the Cobra transom.
Sterndrive Engineering: Conversion kit

add the 1.94 ratio "complete modified" drive to the order.
