OMC outdrive tilt issues

Hello

Looking at buying a 16 foot tempest 1986 with omc I/O, just wondering when the tilt issue was or is resolved. Maybe be running with I/O tilted up for shallow running. Opinions would be wonderful to save me from making a huge mistake.

Asking $4000, boat is in good shape

1986 was a split year. They sold both the Cobra and the Stringer. The stringer is the one with the ball gears and tilt clutches. $4000 seems like a lot for a 16' 1986 boat to me.

$4000 is way too much for that boat even with a Mercruiser on it.
