OMC Prop on Alpha 1

Got a simple question that I haven't been able to find a definitive answer to yet. I've found a really good deal on an OMC style 4 blade SS prop locally. I'm running an Alpha 1 Gen 2. I know both are 15 spline shafts but from what I've read the OMC prop will require a thicker thrust washer to keep the prop from impacting the drive housing. My concern is that if I put on this thicker washer it will push the entire prop aft and I may run out of threads on the prop shaft. Has anyone done this successfully? Appreciate the help anyone may offer.

Ayuh,... Every prop needs the thrust washer it's designed for...

The difference between the OMC, 'n Merc is the Spline Depth...
Ya can run an OMC prop on a Merc...
But,...
A Merc prop won't even slide onto an OMC propshaft...

Thanks for the help Bond-O. As I understand it, the thrust washer is in place to keep the prop from riding up the prop shaft and contacting the lower gear housing. As long as I match OD and ID on a thicker version I should be good, agree?

One last question, have you done this yourself or seen it done? Just tryin' to figure out if advice is based on theory or experience.

Thanks,
Ben

Ayuh,... My Torque-shift is an OMC prop, it fits my Alpha 1 Perfectly....

The thrust hub transfers the propulsion to the prop shaft, 'n locates the prop...
It has to fit the prop...

Re: OMC Prop on Alpha 1

Well, I tried it out and the experiment failed miserably. The OMC prop contacts the lower housing on the Alpha outdrive. If I put a different thrust washer on it to push the prop back then I don't have any splines left on the prop shaft for the splined mercruiser castle nut to mate with. So, if anyone needs a mint condition 4-blade Stiletto Bay Pro II prop at 14.25 x 22P I'll sell it cheap.
