I have a 1983 Sea Ray Sundancer 260 with twin V6 OMC motors. One is shot. I want to have them rebuilt or replaced.

New Volvo's with outdrives and glass work to get them to fit $30,000 is the quote.

Replace the motors with Jasper marine engines using the old drives, $15,000.

Are there any other options for me? I like my boat but this is a lot of money. Would it be worth anything when I got through?

b

Re: OMC Rebuild

Two 800 series stringer drives in one boat?.. is the boat called "double trouble"?...just kidding.
Why the heck would the Jasper deal be $15000? That must be an upgrade to 4.3's?
I have factory rebuilt 3.8 shortblocks for your engines... I'd sell you two for about 15% of that quote. Spend the rest on spare outdrives.
340HP is plenty for a Sundancer...so don't see a need for 4.3 upgrades

Hystat,

The $15,000 figure was installed ready to go. Is that unreasonable? Sounds like I maybe getting a sucker price.

Where can I get your deal?

b.

Re: OMC Rebuild

I have a 1983 Sea Ray Sundancer 260 with the V6 OMC 3.8 litre stern drive engines. One engine is shot and the other not too good.

I used flush out hoses but never had proper radiators so San Franciso Bay took it's toll.

I need something that will fit and that can take a radiator or heat exchanger I guess you call it. I need a complete motor and will probably have to rebuild the stern drives as well even though they have always worked well.

Anyone else have thoughts on a repower problem?
