Where is a good place to find a rebuild for an OMC 120/GM 2.5? Mine seems to be toast, and I can't seem to find a good place to get longblocks. THanks.

Re: OMC rebuilds

Yer in luck speedholes. You live close enough to Portland to take advantage of one of the country's premeir OMC gurus. He's on the Columbia by the airport.

You should call Steve Ryan at Ryans Marine. 503 282 8807. He'll give you the best and most honest advice you will find that is OMC.

There is nothing cheap regarding I/O (especially OMC), but if he can do something with yours, he'll let you know.

Tell him that Gyro Gearloose (his nickname for me) told you to call. Just do not embarrass me by nickle and diming him to death. He is there to make a living but a more knowledgable and honest guy you will not find.

EDIT: oops SH, I just noticed that you were talking about your engine. Steve does not do engines. I would talk to a local machine shop. Ask around at speedshops or autoparts stores for a good reference. There will be someone in your area that is good with motors.

Re: OMC rebuilds

Thanks a ton, I actually need outdrive help as well. My boat had the impeller all taken out, and I think I might be missing parts. My service manual is coming in on Monday, so I will look through that, then give him a call, so I have specific questions rather than vague "please help me" ones. Didn't pay anything for the boat, so I am hoping to get it going without TOO much money. Again, thanks for the help.

Also, will a Mercruiser 120 fit the bill? How about a 3.0 liter Mercruiser? I think they are the same block, but I just want to make sure. My intake and exhaust manifolds seem to be OK (I have done cars for years, so I sort of know a few things), and the head seems to be in at least decent shape. All I really need is a shortblock.

Personally, I find that a little offensive and not very helpful at all. I have OMC and love it. Just put a new long block in mine (GM L6 250cid/ 165hp) and it runs great. If you take care of them, they're great (in my opinion).

Let's try to be helpful instead of laughing and talking down about other's boats' drivetrains.

About where to find a motor, here is where I found mine and it is great!: http://www.carestoration.com/engines/chevy-ceegmc_250malb.html

Great MARINE long block! Good luck in your search!

Hahaha, can't offend me, I laugh at my own boat when I go outside and look at the damn thing. I think I checked that page. My problem has been finding the now out-of-production 2.5, so my question now is, will a 3.0 bolt up?

I think it's great that a 16 year old is taking enough of an interest in boats to read these forums!
