just bought a 1960 jhonnyrude for 60 bucks off ebay!!! the "parts only " motor has a few missing knobs (ie low & high mixture + choke) and screws but all engine covers are there and decals are in suprisingly good condition and a quikk check revealed great compression 87/89 psi and very good spark.........I smell a restoration coming on!!!!

Great little motor and a great price! That's good compression. I have 2 of them, a '53-54 and a '67 and they both run like new motors.

Those compression numbers look great. You tune that little gem up good, it'll last you for years. Run it at 16:1 mix, there are no needle bearings in that motor. They're great motors and a favorite here in the forum.
Back the packing nuts out a couple turns and you'll have less problem backing those needles out. Once you get fresh fuel into the carb, the needles will loosen up a lot more. It'll be beneficial to re-kit the carb too.

Welcome,
Casey brought over a 1954 Lightwin this summer. We replaced the coils, cleaned the points and set the timing, rebuilt the carb, changed gear lube and replaced the impeller and spark plugs. Now it ticks over so slow you can count the cylinders firing, a gem of a motor, perfect for a canoe.
