The 1.6 litre Sea-Drive is the same powerhead as the 115 hp, cross-flow V4. Yours is indeed a 1983 model.

-John

I have had a pair of 87s for 10 years. No problems with the SeaDrives so far. Suggest you buy the OMC shop & parts manual if you plan on doing any of your own maintenance.

This is one of a pair also on a 24' Wellcraft, it belongs to a friend who had bought it two years ago with a sick engine. We had rebuilt the port eng at that time, and the starboard late this summer. There has been a lot of speculation as to the HP these make, the boat runs close to 40 MPH indicated on a speedo (not gps) @5400 / 5200 with a medium / heavy load and it is quick to jump on plane from a stop. Seems more potent than a pair of 115's, maybe our imagination. They also have been rock reliable, and can idle under 1000 all day on surface gap plugs. VRO is disconnected, pre mixing at 50/1.

spucky - sounds like my boat. It is a 1988 Wellcraft 23' Fisherman model center console. I bought mine with a frozen port motor 10 yrs ago and had a rebuilt powerhead put on the starboard this summer. Great boat and rock solid. I did have to have the transom redone about 3 yrs ago and do not fault Wellcraft for that - I do fault the idiot who installed the motors for not using enough sealer for the drive mounting.

I pull it with a Ford Explorer and I get away with that only because I normally pull it less than 100 miles a pop in flat south Florida. For the present I have it in in & out storage in Key Largo. It is great to call them and find the boat in the water when I get there.
