omc sea drive

I have a 1986 omc sea drive 200hp outboard, seized up. is this motor a loop charge? is it worth rebuilding?

Give us a model # and we can tell you for sure, but in all likelyhood this is a looper.Determining whether or not this is a rebuildable unit depends on the damage done. If you have a rod sticking out the side of the case, then probably not.Whatever else needs to be looked at to decide.

Worth rebuilding? For near term resale, probably not. Cost would likely exceed value of 1986. On the other hand, if you like it and the alternative is a brand new 200 hp Outboard motor, rebuilding would make sense. If you are looking at rebuild, I would personally look hard at a rebuilt powerhead from a major rebuilder, unless you really know your mechanic (or can do it yourself}. There are some available now with 2 year warranties, and the prices are comparable with "local" rebuilds, at least around here. There of course are good smaller shops as well, if you know who they are.
