Will a 1988 OMC service manual for 2.5 to 8HP models also work for 1990 models specifically a 6HP or was there a design change. Also what is the deal with Belgian made OMC. Were these motors of a different design or were the same ones being built here in the states. What models were built in Belguim and for how long?

Re: OMC service manuals

Some OMC motors were made in Belgium for a long time, even back into the '60s. If they were made for the North American market, there should be no problem with oddities. But it appears that there are differences in those made for other markets.

My 6 was made in Belguim. Were all 6's made in Belguim? Will a 1988 OMC service manual apply to a 1990 belguim made 6HP

I don't know, it's too new for me. Try going to BRP's parts website and compare the two to see if they look similar. At the same time, compare the model numbers to see if the list is applicable. Copy and paste this address without the quotation marks "http://epc.brp.com/default.aspx?brands=ej&lang=E"

The parts lists make no distinction betwen the Belgium built models and others AFAIK.

If this question rlates to your ealier one about the poor starting and possible carb problem then what may be of interest is the fact that there was a small change to the carb design sometime during 1988. both early and late versions are included in the parts lists.

Sorry to go off topic here for a moment, but I'd like to point out that the trouble Iboats has had with linking some websites appears to have been resolved. So you do not have to quote out the BRP parts site, but you must use the link that keeps the Iboats software happy like this one:
