omc shift assist module

I have an 89 omc 2.3 and like I have heard others say mine is also hard to pull into neuteral when moving at a slow speed.but now it won't run at all or when it does start it runs very ruff.Can I somhow bypass it to see if it will run? We've tried everything to make it run.Its getting spark but weak spark and fuel HELP!!!

you can unplug it and try to run, sounds like bad points with weak spark

the points cap rotor wires are all new .It did die on me just like it was running out of gas.the fuel pressure was weak so i changed the pump and its getting good fuel now.we checked the timing belt and everything was right on the money with that also

There is a treasure of info on this board about the OMC ESA module and it's problems. Also, there is another site devoted just to the ESA, which you will see mentioned in posts.<br /><br />To start getting all this advice, use the SEARCH function for "ESA".<br /><br />By the way, I just had an old OMC dealer replace my shift cable and check things out. It had the same no-start/weak spark problem you have. It now starts right up and it shifts with one finger...just like it should.

Turned out to be the condenser. A brand new one i might add. Go figure
