omc shift cable removal

Hi all

Found the problem to my gear shifting issues was a worn shift cable, im having problems getting the cable out of the gymbal housing , the 3/4" behind the housing is locked in tight , any ideas besides lots of CRC Inox WD

its a 5.8 L cobra

I had the same problem when I replaced my shift cable. I ended up removing the pivot housing so I could get at the nut, and using lots of elbow grease to loosen it.

Thanks mate , i presume i have to remove the large allen head bolts either side to remove the pivot (gymbal) housing

10-4 the tool can be had from NAPA pn 18-9861 around $15-$20. One end for OMC the other for MC.

Plus those Bolts (unless someone has redone them) are factory installed with red loctite. Tough to break loose may have to use heat.

You do need to remove the large (1/2") allen head bolts to remove the pivot housing from the gimbal ring. First be sure to disconnect the u-joint bellows and exhaust bellows as well as the grounding straps.
