I am looking into hooking up a 60's Evinrude 40 hp to a later version OMC single lever control box, the cable ends are the same style, but need replacing due to shortness. Could there be a potential problem here with replacing the cables, any recommendations?

RC.... When you say "cables", you are not including the electrical cable along with the group but are rather speaking "only" of the shift and throttle cable..... you will have no problem.

The electrical cable would of course need quite a bit of modifying.

Thanks for the help, Joe, I am indeed referring to shift and throttle cables only.

hello
if the control box is later than about 1978 and uses snap in cables you will most likly have to modify the new cable ends slightly. its not hard nor a big deal. the pre78 cables all had removable cable ends. if you use the removable cable end type make sure the wire is tempered or the lock bolts will slip. every time.
