have an '85 omc 5.0l, just replaced heads, exhaust manifolds, intake manifold, and new edelbrock 4bbl. Took it out for test run and engine sounds and runs great; idles @600 and top speed @40mph @4100rpm; except i am having a problem when shifting to reverse. Engine rpms drop to @200 and gear does not engage; if i move it to neutral and back to reverse eventually gear goes in.Does it have to do with the shift interrupter? If so how do i test or adjust it.

Re: omc shift problem

This stringer mount requires a nominal neutral setting that can sometimes be tricky. You will need a manual for this drive and a expeirienced friend would not hurt.Good luck.
