OMC special tool

I am in the process of overhauling a 1990 Johnson 120.<br />Looking at the OMC service manual on page 4-22 it states that I will need a OMC Alignment Fixture p/n 396749 to install and torgue the connection rod screws. <br /><br />Is this tool used to set side clearance on the rod and bearings?<br /><br />Can I torgue the rod screws in stages like you would on a automotive engine and check the side clearance with a feeler gage?<br /><br />If you have any information please reply.<br /><br />Thank You

The alignment tool is to get perfect alignment between the ro and rod cap. I just use my fingernail. If my fingernail snags then I realign.
