Good Evening,

Im new to iboats and I was wondering if I could get some assistance on my boat. I have a 1977 Reinell 190 with a 175 OMC sterndrive. The boat has been sitting for almost 2 years, and I just recently pulled it out to work on it. I dont recall having problems with it when I used it last, but would like to know if there is possible damage to the drive from sitting too long or if I should look for any specific trouble spots. I am rebulding carb, and preping engine. To be honest I know its a ford 302, but not sure what model the outdrive is?

Thanks!

Re: OMC sterndrive maint issues

You would probably want to change the gear lube, and grease all your fitting with marine grae grease in your gun, I don't have the manual, but guys out here sent me one for my outdrive with all the know hows and what to do, have you looked on the out drive for you S/N?? that usually helps and pics if possable.

Re: OMC sterndrive maint issues

First, welcome to iboats! :D I have the same 175 setup on my boat (1975).

Are you in an area prone to freezing? If so was the unit winterized/stored inside? How old is the impeller?

If it was maintained/stored properly, I would just give it a basic service/tuneup. Change the upper & lower drive oils, (Make sure you use OMC Premium Blend or type-c oil in the lower if you have the electric shift model), grease fittings & tilt gears (make sure to get the pivot bearing zirk under the cap on the front of the drive), check for water in the tilt clutch housing and change/add oil as required.

For the engine, again a basic tuneup. Pull & regap/replace plugs as needed, check plug wires/cap/rotor/points & replace as needed, check point gap, change oil, check belts/hoses/clamps, check timing.

Look in the Adults Only sticky at the top of the forum and there's an Seloc OMC manual there. Seloc's aren't the greatest manuals, but the'll get you started. Start looking on ebay etc. for a factory OEM one.

Re: OMC sterndrive maint issues

Thanks:D I downloaded the manual, which was just what I needed. I will try and post picutures soon. The boat is in an area prone to freezing..ie Oregon, and sadley it was stored outside. As far as I know the water was drained from all components so I hope no damage to engine. My initial concern was that engine was froze, but it cranks and almost starts..suprising! I will get on changing the parts mentioned, and doing a full service. I am rebuilding the carb as its full of varnish. Also suprising, the trim works. I will post an update

Thanks again!
