Re: omc stringer 800 mechanical shif goes forward in reverse gear and reverse in forw
i hope you have the omc manual or the seloc or something like that. The way the shifter cable is assembled together is for both cables the same,( hydraulic or mechanic) but you can have a test when everything is connected , pulling on the short cable end should drive the shifter rack DOWN for the hydraulic shifter = forward. For the mechanical shifter, pulling the short cable should lift the shifter rack UP.
If your drive is a full-mechanic shifter, and the rack goes down when pulling the short cable end, you got the wrong cable for sure. I've heard that some mechanics did alter the way the cables were wired around the pulleys in the shifter housing by filing down the dimensions of the larger puck on the cable so it would fit in the hole in the pulley. Also the edge on the cable itself was modified to fit properly. So they could use a hydro-shift cable on a mechanical shift outdrive. That was before Bombardier decided to get the cables in production again and shifter cables were obsolete. I know a new cable is very expensive, but it's worth every dollar.
