Help....Is it difficult to change the impeller on a stringer outdrive?

I am considering doing it myself, but not sure how difficult. I have a good mechanical ability.

Oh, are the impellers the same on all OMC models?

YES! It is hard. Don't try it!

I think the impeller in all the stringers are the same, but the 800 and 400 models may be different.

Tom

What should I expect to pay at a repair shop?

Before you give up. Buy a manual. Take a look at the procedures and you be the judge if it is within your mechanical abilities.

Re: OMC Stringer Impeller Replacement

I have an '82 Stringer 800 ....

I was goign to do it myself... $70 for the kit... (don't just do the impeller)

I was going to do it myself, but the manual says "remove outdrive" ... that was enough for me, and took it to the shop. 2.5 Hours labor for someone who knows how to do it right. I thought it well worth the expense. He said they didn't have to remove the drive... just the lower half.

But..... in the process of them doing this, my steering problem got fixed when they put it all back together. :)

Re: OMC Stringer Impeller Replacement

thanks for all the help...I have a shop manual, but just sounds tricky taking off the entire drive.

The money is better spent on someone with knowledge, than with me wasting my very litte free time.

thanks all!
