Folks, I have a '77 OMC stringer that wont stay in drive over 1500 RPM's. It lets go over that RPM and it re-engages when it gets below that RPM. It has been a frustrating experience on this drive but its all I can afford at this time. I would appreciate any info on this issue. Thanks again to all.

try a different prop. sounds like the rubber bushing is slipping.

some will tell you that pin type prop doesn't use a bushing, but it absolutely does.

propco still makes the props and they have the best prices

Re: OMC Stringer wont stay in gear

What are the chances of my spare prop doing the exact same thing??? Checked the amperage on the green and blue wires coming from the switch and the green shows 1.1 amps. I have 12v coming out of the wires but the amps seem low. Would the possibility of not having enough current causes the gears to disengage? Is it safe to assume that I have a bad switch?
