I been lucky enough to get a great deal on a complete new set of gauges for my OMC Engine that match the ones in my boat....Except the Tach with is for SYSTEM CHECK (latest Level)
What I need is info on this tach part # 176301-08-k-u this new tach does not hard wire like the old one I has a connector buitl into the back of the Tach that a plug is suppose to plug into... There are 8 pins in this connector... I need to know which ones are for 12v.... Grnd... and PUL. so I can hard wire to my old wiring system Any help out there... If so looking into the connector on the back of the tach with the light on top... I would consider pin 1 being in the top left conner and pin 8 being in the lower right... use this a ref for which pin is 12v... Grnd... and PUL... Thanks in advance..

Re: OMC TACH

ok I got some help and am half way the there but still need more... I found out the color codes for each pin on the back of the Tach but now I need to know where they go.. Looking into the tach with the connector at the bottom the upper left pin is PIN 1 this takes a purple wire... going right to Pin 2 is Black... Pin 3 is Gray... Pin 4 is Tan W/yellow... Straight down from pin 4 lower right conner is Pin 5 Tan w/black going left is Pin 6 Tan left again Pin 7 Tan w/orange and Pin 8 Tan w/Blue.... anyone what these wires go to Pin 2 black is more than likely Gound... Pin 3 is Gray could be PUL. System Check tach 4 Lights... NO Oil (new level VRO) Hot (Engine Heat Sensor) CHK ENGINE (I am told this has to do with fuel) and Low Oil (that would be VRO Oil Tank) Any help would be appreacaited

system check gauge wiring

If you just want to use the tach function of the gauge, here's the pin configuration (looking at the back-side of the gauge, holding it upright):

1-2-3-4
8-7-6-5

Purple wire goes to pin 1 -12V
Black wire goes to pin 2 - ground
Gray wire goes to pin 3 - tach signal

Grounding these pins, will activate the following:

Pin 4, turn on no oil lite
Pin 5, turn on low oil lite
Pin 7, turn on check engine lite
Pin 6, turn on hot lite

Pin 8, is used to activate the warning horn, it supplies a ground to the horn circuit when any other warning circuit (pins 4 thru 7) is grounded

How did you attach the wires to the pins? Solder? I am afraid I will melt something if I solder them...is there some other way?
Thanks for the great info...

Re: OMC TACH

Go to a dealer and buy the 8 pin Deutsch (?) connector and the pins needed.

I ordered these parts as listed and they were exactly what I needed!!! I used them to build the plug necessary for my tach which I will be installing soon. Just wanted to say thanks again seahorse...you were dead on the money.

Hey Seahorse,
I connected this tach today and I got all the lights working properly...but I cannot get the buzzer to sound when I trigger one of the lights. It does beep once when I turn on the key.
I checked the wire coming from pin 8 and there is no ground signal when the lights are activated.

Any suggestions?

Re: OMC TACH

The System Check warning horn will only sound when the motor is running when there is a lite illuminated. The one beep when the key is turned on is the normal "self test".
