OMC thermostat change

I know how to change a thermostat in anything. However when I look at the thermostat in my OMC, it looks like it is jammed into the housing. Really it looks like it is stuck. any tricks on getting this puppy out?? Thanks

The OMC's have a big rubber O ring holding them in there, it's hard to see but you need to dig it out first and you should get a new one for the new t-stat. Have a look at this expolded view and see items 56, 57 and 61 (gasket) OMC T-Stat
