OMC throttle cable adjustment

Is there any specific way the throttle cable needs to be adjusted? I just replaced my engine and it runs fine on muffs, once in water only 2000 RPM. I fiddled with the cable end connected to the throttle body and I eventually got 4200 RPM. Any help appreciated...

find the specs for neutral ideling then set it to that. that is usually the way to go. if it seems to low give it just a little at a time. but remember not to have it to high in neuteral so you dont smack the drive into gear when u shift up.

been there done that one time trying to get the boat out of the water-hope I did not hurt it.....
