to eliminate air in the system I raised and lowered the outdrive while adding fluid and once it worked properly I quit raising and lowering the drive but now the gage reads that the drive is in the up position full time the drive is a 1993 OMC cobra on a 4winns 245 vista, the gauge has no where to adjust the setting so my question is how to set the guage to read properly?

welcome aboard.

if you posted this in the OMC forum, you would have gotten more responses.

here is the proceedure for your OMC for filling http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engi...oard-engines-outdrives/342742-omc-information

it came from the stickies at the top of the forum, specifically this one http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engi...69-must-have-technical-information-for-diyers

somewhere along the line of operating your trim up and down during your filling process, you damaged your trim sender

Your trim sender is not part of the drive.
It is bolted on to the drive and has an arm that sticks out.
When the drive is lowered down, it hits the arm and moves it. sending a signal to the guage.
My suggestion is raise drive up and get your fingers in there and move the arm back and forth and see it it moves, I need to add some WD-40 to mine and work it a bit to loosen it up.
You could take it off and work in back and forth for easy access, but your fingers should work just fine.
Also make sure NO ONE operates the drive while you are in there. maybe turn off power, and remove batt cable for safety.
