OMC Tilt Noise, fluid full, air won't bleed

I have a 1980 200hp Evinrude outboard. When I tilt the motor up or down it makes a loud clicking noise, which previous topics attribute to air in the hydraulics. I checked the fluid level and it appears fine. I cycled the motor up and down a few times and continued to check the level with the engine in the full up position, and it still makes the noise. Do I need to leave the screw (in reservoir) out when I cycle the engine up and down? What am I doing wrong, or is it something else? My owners' manual states to check the reservoir after all air has been removed, but doesn't tell me how to do this.

Leave the filler screw out while bleeding. I can't help with the clicking noise but usually air in the system causes either slow or no tilt or trim.

c/6

Hooty

Re: OMC Tilt Noise, fluid full, air won't bleed

I appreciate the advice, but couldn't find the post from Joe Reeves when I did a search. I did read one of his topics which mentioned to put the fill screw back in and then cycle the motor up and down which is opposite of what Hooty told me. Is Joe Reeves out there? Any suggestions - what's this about low pressure air for bleeding the system?

Never mind I found the article by Joe Reeves. I'll try it over the weekend. Could a leaky seal be letting air in, and prevent me from ever bleeding the air out?
