OMC Trim Sensor

I put a CMC power trim on my motor last year. My boat has an OMC trim gauge. I'd like to put a sensor on my CMC unit so I can determine my trim position. There is a fair chance I could make my own sender if needed or possibly I could retrofit one from an OMC trim unit. However, first I need to know what OMC used. Was it just some sort of resistive device (potentiometer etc.) or something more exotic. Anyone know??

Re: OMC Trim Sensor

Nothing more than a pot sealed in a mountable case with a spring loaded arm that was pushed down by the swivel bracket and a long piece of light cord to run to the tach. Don't remember right off the top of the gray cells what the pot's range is.

Thanks OBJ, I figured it was probably just a pot. So... anyone know the range??

Re: OMC Trim Sensor

If you want the easy way, go to the panthermarine website - they have a universal sender. I've posted on it before. It really is a versitile and robust (strong) design, high quality. Includes gauge.

Looking at my own OMC sender - I don't know if you could adapt it to a CMC unit. I'm almost positive you wouldn't have any problem adapting the panthermarine unit.

By the way, don't CMC make sending units for their TT units?

If you want to do it yourself with your OMC gauge, and don't know the resistances involved, the teleflex websites have that info (because they make a gauge that works with an OMC sender, therefore telling you what your sender needs to put out).
