OMC TROLLIN MOTOR - NEED HELP

I JUST BOUGHT A 1992 JAVELIN WITH A OMC TROLLING MOTOR. IT IS A 12/24 BUT IT WILL ONLY RUN ON 24V WHEN SWITCHED TO IT AND IT ACTS LIKE IT IS ON 12 VOLT.WHEN YOU TURN THE DIAL ON THE SPEEDS IT DOES NOT CHANGE.THE BATTERYS ARE LIKE NEW AND CHRAGED FULLY.ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Are your batteries wired correctly? (In series for 24V operation.) If you have them wired parallel, the motor is getting only 12 volts.

THERE IS 2 HEAVY RED GAUGE AND 2 HEAVY GAUGE BLACK WIRES FROM BATTERYS GOING TO RECEPTACLE IN FRONT.THE WIRES ARE HOOKED LIKE 12 VOLT, DO I NEED TO HOOK THEM UP IN 24V AT BATTERYS?

No. Your wiring is correct. It appears you have both batteries wired separately to the connector. The motor then uses the 12/24V switch to make the change. If the motor runs in the 24V position (although slowly as you said) and not at all in the 12 mode, one of the batteries or its wiring from that battery is bad, or the switch or motor has a problem. Use a voltmeter to check voltage at the connector. you should measure 12.6 volts across both red-Black pairs. If not, you have a battery wiring problem. If you do, its a switch/motor problem.

I want to know what happened. Did this get fixed by replacing the 12/24 volt switch on the foot control?
