New member, several questions. Please bear with me....

I have a 1963 OMC Deluxe with the V4 2-stroke engine. I'd like to convert it to something like a Volvo-Penta AQ131A inline 4-stroke. The spacial requirements are no problem. However, the OMC 275 outdrive that originally came with the
AQ-131a's is too short. What will be needed to bolt-up the inline 4 to the original V4 outdrive?

Next: Will the AQ131A bolt up to and be compatible with the outdrive that originally came with the old odd-fire v6's?

Anybody ever done this type of conversion? All help/advice/criticisms welcome.....and thanks!

There is nothing you can buy to adapt the Volvo to that outdrive. You might be able to do it if you have a fully equipped machine shop and lots of money, and make all your own parts.

Your best bet would to get rid of all the OMC stuff. Rebuild the transom, cut a new hole for a Volvo transom shield and drive for the 121 engine.

Well, that's certainly not the answer I had hoped for...but it's the information I needed. OK, let's attack it from another angle...Is there another (longer) outdrive that will bolt-up as a no alteration replacement for the OMC 275 outdrive?

Post some pictures of what you have, I have never heard of an OMC 275 outdrive. But I do know you aren't going to hook that Volvo motor to any type OMC outdrive.

Sorry...I meant to say Volvo-Penta 275 outdrive. Ya know...after careful consideration, I think I'll convert the whole nine yards to Mercruiser engine and outdrive. All things considered, it will be easier and more dependable in the long run and parts are available everywhere. I already have a Mercruiser 170 4 cylinder and alpha one outdrive. I checked the measurements and it will fit. That ought to put some sass in the ***!

Re: OMC V4 Conversion

If you have Volvo 275, I would go with the Volvo engine and drive before I put a 470 in it.

One thing you brought up in your original post was that the Volvo seemed to be too short? The X dimension (Crankshaft Centerline) and the propshaft centerline are the same distance. So the Alpha will also be too short.

If you have one of the OMC stringer type drives, you are going to have to put a new transom in no matter what. The stringer transoms are too thin, and the hole is way too big for anything to fit.
