OMC V4 Outboard Recommendations?

My project boat is rated for 135hp outboard. When I am ready, I would like to find an older Evinrude/Johnson 115/135/140hp. Which style of these
motors (crossflow flat back, crossflow bubble back or looper) are the best for running hard (skiing, tubing, etc)? Is there much difference on fuel demand between them,
or are they all hogs?

Newer than 1978 gets you the more modern TnT system. '81 and newer have the primer circuit as opposed to the choke which in my opinion makes for easier cold starts. '86 and newer are prop-rated horsepower. All these motors are pretty solid and dependable. I believe loopers get a little better fuel economy. A 140 looper would be ideal.

The 1990s era 60-degree looper blocks are probably the strongest, pound for pound, plus better (but not great) fuel economy...
