Omc water intake problem.

I replaced my lower omc gearcase on my 88 4.3L Four Winns with a GLM unit.I also replaced impeller on water pickup pump.I put muffs on and started engine but could not get water to flow thru system.I noticed that the GLM unit does not have the small hole in front of the water intake slots.My omc always had a small pencil stream of water from this hole when the muffs were used.Should the hole be there on the GLM unit?? I removed lower gearcase and found a very small leak in the water passage housing thru a pin hole in the casting. I turned water passage over,filled it with water,and had a drop of water every second leak thru casting.Could this small leak in water passage housing keep water from reaching impeller?? I put my OMC gearcase,with a bent prop shaft, back on and water flowed like it should. Help me if you can,Terry

do you have the water tube installed in the upper or the lower? are the seals in place for the tube?<br />is the plastic volcano over the seal on the lower to align the water pipe?

I installed new seal on water pipe and inserted it in upper then lowered it into plastic volcano with new seal.It acted like i was getting air from some where but when i installed old unit it worked fine.It seems strange that GLM unit does not have the same small holes that the omc has.Are they vent holes?

Terry the small hole is a drain hole so water won't remain and crack the housing.I think you should call GLM.I've not used their product,so can't help further.<br />DHP

from the water pick up screens to the tube there should not be any holes, this would cause it to draw air when on plain. the cover that the tube goes into on the lower did you have to install your old one? did you use a new gasket or did glm? check that. I have had weird issues with the "good luck mother $er reman company".

thanks guys, the GLM unit came with it's own water passage housing and gasket. The housing is where i found the pin hole leak in casting.Do you think that could be the problem?? It is such a small leak I would have thought some water would have made it thru system. I think my next move will be to use my old water passage housing.

I changed the water passage housing and it worked great.The defective housing is stamped Taiwan.

good find terry! send it back to where you bought the GLM with a letter of flustration. I would tell them how buying a OEM unit would have been cheaper in the long run. just rember what GLM stands for!
