OMC water pump

How do you change the water pump in the upper gear case on my I/O while it is on the boat? igrayone@comcast.net

What year is this, is it a Cobra?

It is a 1982 800 series.Just before the Cobra came out. I know about taking off the lower gear case, but the manual only describes ovhaulling the upper gear case and I just want to put in the rebuild kit for the water pump. Thanks

You will need to take the upper cover off to remove the lower from the upper then lift the upper off the lower then in the lower portion of the upper is the lower portion fo the water pump.You will need a little low torque pryinig to remove the lower w.p. from the upper .Inspect the water pump shaft carefully and make sure the splines are entirely intact or you will be in for trouble.Got it?
