I've got an 88 OMC 5.7 L engine. Since this is basically a marinized Chev 350 I was wondering if anyone has upgraded thier ingition system to something better than the stock system for more reliable spark and better fuel mileage? If this was in a street car I know what I would do (Mallory system) but being a marine application thought I'd get some input.

That's just what I was looking for. Thanks. How noticeable was the upgrade for you?

It was money well spent and they even supply a wiring diagram to suit the OMC set up but you must stipulate that when you purchase it.

points are the most reliable (if maintained) and field fixable, but that Delco system has a good rep for electronic. And it's a system that needs almost no maintenance. It's basically the marine version of GM's tried and true HEI.
Ignition upgrades will not yield any fuel economy gain or power increase on a boat, it's just about lower maintenance.
