OMS location?

I have newly acquired a 2000 Johnson 90 Ocean Pro. I read that these motors usually have an OMS (Oil Metering System), which mixes the oil and fuel in place of pre-mixing. I read that some people bypass this. If the OMS was still on this motor, where would it be? Where would I be required to put the oil? I have been pre-mixing 50:1, no problems, no extra smoke, so I believe I'm just fine. I am overlooking the OMS, and oil reservoir?

Thanks

Re: OMS location?

there would be an 1 1/2 gallon oil tank in the stern of the boat, with a hose and wires going to the motor. the OMS pump is mounted on the back of the carb air silencer. i think you best get with previous owner as to whether or not the OMS system was disabled. keep mixing until you find out.

Re: OMS location?

Remove the cowl, and pup off the rubber snubbers that hold on the airbox. The OMS pump is on the bottom front of the crankcase, slighty to the left. See if it still has all the hoses (Oil, gas, pulse) conected. Do not disconnect them, if they are connected. The oil tank will have a primer bulb. Give it a squeeze to see if the system is pressurized. When you run it you should see blue smoke and smell oil, if the OMS is operating properly. A good test is to fill the oil tank to the top, and run a 6 gal can of premix. After the premix is gone, refill the tank. It should take a bit less than a pint of oil. The OMS system runs about 60::1.
