Re: On board Charger

Please clarify what you are trying to do.

Hook up an alternator device to your motor, to keep the battery charged?

A battery charger that is mounted on the boat, but is plugged into "shore power", is typically referred to as an "Onboard charger".
Example: onboard charger

Re: On board Charger

I can't speak specifically to your motor, but if it can be done, it would be a pretty low output unit. You would have to run at high rpm for a day or more to charge a deep cycle battery.

My 70hp only puts out 9 amp to the battery, while my trolling motor can draw up to 30 amps.

If you were just using a fishfinder and lights, it would work. It is pretty much a given, that a motors charging system will not keep a trolling motors' battery charged.
