Last fall when I picked up the new Regal 1900, I had the dealer install a second battery and battery '1/2/all' perko switch. It's a trailered boat, and I want to have an onboard charger put in so I can keep the batteries good between outings while sitting in my driveway. I assume that the onboard chargers are trickle type chargers and can just stay on charge until the next time I use the boat. And is it as easy as installing the unit away from the batteries, positive and negative cables to each of the batteries? And finally, how does it connect to the electric coming from the house - is there a wire that just hangs off the boat that gets plugged in, or is there some type of connection you have to drill thru the transom area (yes above the waterline) where a fitting is put in place to plug it in to the extension cord from the house?

Can you recommend a dual charger ?

any will be fine... I use a dual pro. They generally will charge at 6-10 amps and automatically switch to float mode when charged. They just have a cord but you can buy a fitting to drill in if you want but don't put it through the transom.... put it in some interior panel instead.
