One step closer to water... 1992 Mercruiser 5.7L questions

My 1992 5.7L Mercruiser has stated up after a long lay up! It starts but won't idle unless throttle is advanced about 1/4 can get it to idle but it surges between 1000 -1500 rpm and stalls if I go under that range. My "best guess" is I need a carb kit (floats/etc), but could it also be ignition? I carefully sprayed some carb cleaner in it while running and it ran smoothly while being injected with the cleaner... leading me to believe the surging is fuel related rather than ignition related... but I'm not at all knowledgeable/experienced on these things.
I still am trying to find out what carb I have so i can get the right rebuild kit. Here are some photos. Also form the S/N etc can you tell
1. what is the rated HP? The transom has a big marking WARNING 230 HP max... is this a 230 HP motor?
2. What version Thunderbolt ignition is on this?

5.7 with a 4bbl. Quadrajet carb. is 260hp. Can't see the distributor, probably Thunderbolt IV

Your running issue sounds like the carbuetor idle circuit needs some attention. A normal carb rebuild service will likely set you up.

Thanks. I went below, cleaned, photo'd, scraped and photo'd some more. It is a rochester 4bbl quadrajet 1708561 model. Carb kit on order.... vromm vroom next!
